In this post I want to answer the question about whether the new DP-700 Microsoft Fabric exam will replace the DP-600 exam? I address a couple of other points in this post as well.
In reality, I already answered this in my previous post about the DP-700 exam. However, I wanted to address this in a separate post to amplify this point within the community and make it easier to find.
Because my extremely short answer is no, the DP-700 exam is not a replacement for the DP-600 exam. At least not at this moment in time.
In fact, you can think of the new Microsoft Certified: Microsoft Fabric Data Engineering Associate certification as a Microsoft Fabric variant of the existing Azure Data Engineer Associate certification.
Since there are parallels with the concepts covered in both the Azure Data Engineering certification and the new Microsoft Fabric Data Engineering certification. For example, both cover typical ways to ingest and transform data.

What about the DP-600 exam?
If you have already passed the DP-600 exam or are currently studying for it do not panic. Because the Fabric analytics engineer certification is still very relevant.
Even more so after Microsoft announced that it is the fastest growing Microsoft certification in history. With over seventeen thousand people certified in the first six months.
So, if you were given a sticker for gaining the Fabric analytics engineer certification during the European Microsoft Fabric Community Conference you can still show it off with pride.
Which should you do if you have recently passed the PL-300 exam?
If you recently passed the PL-300 exam and gained the Power BI Data Analyst certification I recommend taking the DP-600 exam.
Due to the fact that you can utilize a lot of the things that you covered in the PL-300 exam. For example, knowledge relating to DAX and deployment pipelines.
Of course, if you are really keen on fine-tuning your Data Engineering skills look at the DP-700 exam instead.
Final words
I do hope that this short post answers whether the new DP-700 Microsoft Fabric exam will replace the DP-600 exam? Because I want to provide peace of mind to those who put the effort into passing the DP-600 exam.
