Presenting at DATA:Scotland last week

Reading Time: 4 minutes

In this post I want to share my thoughts about presenting at DATA:Scotland last week.

I do not tend to post about presenting at events these days. However, my experience leading up to and including DATA:Scotland was special this year. So, I wanted to publish this post for two main reasons.

First, it gives me a chance to discuss the two Microsoft Fabric sessions I presented at DATA:Scotland and share links to additional resources . So that those who attended either of my sessions can easily find them.

Secondly, it gives me a chance to express my gratitude to all involved with the event. Due to the fact that it presented me with an opportunity to return to the UK and visit some friends and family beforehand.

Journey to DATA:Scotland

I was invited to a family occasion the weekend before DATA:Scotland. So, we decided to visit the southwest of the UK for a number of days before DATA:Scotland. In order to catch-up with some family members before my birthday.

It was great to stay in the southwest of the UK for a while before making my way to Glasgow to attend DATA:Scotland. Which turned out to be a great event.

I ended up presenting two sessions at DATA:Scotland due to a last-minute addition. Which I share more about in the below sections. You can find the slides for both of the sessions in my PastPresentations GitHub repository.

Presenting the most unique Microsoft Fabric introduction you will ever see

My first session was the most unique Microsoft Fabric introduction you will ever see. Which is exactly like the title says. At least it is unique for now.

To be fair it is such an involved session that it would be hard for others to reproduce unless the session had been recorded. Because I really did give this session some unique flair.

Including leveraging my experience with the sustainability data solutions in Fabric. Which I wrote some posts about. Including one where I share the results of my initial testing of the new ESG data estate capability for sustainability reporting in Microsoft Fabric.

I like experimenting with new presentation styles. So, I really enjoyed presenting this unique introduction.

Presenting about the analytics development lifecycle at DATA:Scotland

My second session covered how to navigate the analytics development lifecycle in Microsoft Fabric. Where I covered the analytics development lifecycle based on the knowledge required about it for the DP-600 study guide.

I covered Microsoft Fabric along with a couple of other applications and services during this session. Including Azure DevOps and Tabular Editor. Which was a nice coincidence since Tabular Editor were one of the sponsors for DATA:Scotland.

Anyway, to help those who attended the session I have multiple posts relating to the DP-600 exam. Plus, plenty of other Microsoft Fabric related posts. Some of which cover elements relating to this session.

For example, my initial tests of Git integration support for Microsoft Fabric Data Warehouses.

Plus, my post about the analytics development lifecycle requirements for the DP-600 Microsoft Fabric exam. Which contains additional details and links relating to the session.

After DATA:Scotland

I must admit I really enjoyed presenting these two Microsoft Fabric sessions at DATA:Scotland. Because I enjoy sharing my knowledge in this area and helping others.

Even more so when I get great feedback at events and online. Like the compliments I received during the event and a compliment I received on reddit the other day.

In addition, it was great to catchup with some other folks again. Including two speakers who are presenting at the next in-person Dutch Fabric user group meetup later this week. Which I am co-organizing.

When I returned back to the Netherlands after DATA:Scotland I discovered that my latest MVP disc had arrived. To be recognized by Microsoft this way makes what I do even more worthwhile.

Final words about presenting at DATA:Scotland last week

I hope this post about me presenting at DATA:Scotland was an interesting read. Even if it was just to gain the links to the slides and the additional resources that I mentioned during the two sessions.

Congratulations to all involved in making it such a great event. Including the organizers, speakers, sponsors and all the attendees.

Plus, a special thanks to those involved in selecting my sessions. Which provided me with both the opportunity to present the sessions and have an extended visit to the UK.

Of course, if you have any comments or queries about this post feel free to reach out to me.
