Curing an Azure certification itch

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In this post I want to cover how I went about curing an Azure certification itch. By regaining the Azure Administrator Associate certification.

Allow me to explain. Many years ago I gained an older version of the Azure Administrator Associate certification whilst studying for the old MCSD Azure Architect certification. I then upgraded to the modern certification by doing a transition exam.

However, towards the end of the lockdown period I still had many other priorities. Which meant that I did not get a chance to take the renewal exam.

At first, I was a bit annoyed. Mostly because I thought that it I could no longer renew certifications which this one was a prerequisite for.

I then discovered what I consider to be an interesting certification loophole. I was still able to renew my DevOps Engineer Expert certification even though I no longer held the prerequisite certification.

Even though I understood why this was possible, it did not sit with me well.

Over time this itch grew. Even after helping hundreds of people in the Data Platform community and within Avanade pass the DP-600 exam. Which is strange considering that I have gained other certifications over the years.

I finally decided to study for the az-104 exam to regain the certification. Using the method that I covered in a previous New Years post.

Which I am pleased to announce I passed during hot conditions here in the Netherlands. I am glad I finally took the exam for various reasons.

Plus, studying for it again made me realize that some of the elements are useful when working with Microsoft Fabric. Especially as far as working with Microsoft Entra ID is concerned.

Final words about curing a certification itch

I hope this post about me curing an Azure certification itch motivates some of you to cure certification itches that you have.

In addition, I hope me sharing this shows that anything is possible regardless of how long you have delayed things.

Of course, if you have any comments or queries about this post feel free to reach out to me.
