This year I am speaking at PASS Data Community Summit 2022. I am presenting a new session for this event. With a different theme than sessions that I have presented previously.
Because during this session I will share some of the things that I have learned over the years whilst gaining various Microsoft certifications.
Plus, I cover some certification paths that some of you might want to consider depending on where you want to go with your data career. Including some non-Microsoft certifications. I mention more than just Microsoft certifications for various reasons.
My session is called ‘Figuring out your Data Certification Path‘. You can view the full details for the session by clicking on the session name or by clicking on the below image.
Presenting a personal development session instead of a technical session relating to the two categories that I have an MVP award for is a new experience for me. Even more so since it will be my first time speaking in America.
However, I wanted to present this session for a variety of reasons.
Why this session at PASS Data Community Summit 2022?
Over the years I have gained a fair few certifications. Including an interesting trio of data certifications from Microsoft. Relating to technologies like Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics and Power BI.
Which is now technically a quartet after passing the DP-500 beta exam a while back. As you can see in the below image.
In addition, I have gained other certifications. Including a couple of GitHub certifications for Azure partners.
Something that I have always been keen to do is give back to the community whilst gaining these certifications.
For instance, I have helped many members of the Microsoft Data Platform community with questions relating to certifications. Such as explaining to a lot of people asked me how I managed to gain the newer style MCSA for SQL Server 2008.
Which led to me signing up to become a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT).
However, I can confirm that after talking to a former colleague and writing this blog post I have decided to become a MCT again. To show how serious I am about that decision I sent my application off whilst writing this post.
Pleased to announce that it got approved and I am now a Microsoft Certified Trainer again.
In addition to the above, I now get to coach others in an official capacity for my employer. Which was an offer that I was glad to accept.
To date I have helped six trainees gain a couple of Azure certifications each. Something that I am really proud of. Even though in my eyes they are the ones who have done all the hard work.
My final reason is because I get to present this session in-person in Seattle. Which I am really looking forward to doing.
Final words
I hope my post about speaking at PASS Data Community Summit 2022 has got some of you interested.
Because I am really excited to present this session and I am looking forward to sharing my experience with those of you who attend. To help you make choices about your data certification path,
Of course, other great speakers will be presenting as well. You can still register for PASS Data Community Summit 2022.
