I want to cover my thoughts about SQLBits going virtual this year in this post. Which was announced earlier today.
For those of you who have yet to see the announcement the tweet is below.
Like the tweet says, check your email inboxes if you have already registered.
Personally, I think this is the best thing the SQLBits team could do in the current circumstances. Especially with the recent announcement by the UK government about conferences and exhibitions.
I know first-hand how much hard work goes into organizing a virtual conference. Knowing the SQLBits team I expect they will go to great lengths to make this an amazing virtual event.
Really looking forward to seeing how interactive they decide to make it, and of course how. Because, I suspect they have done a large amount of planning for this.
Especially with the website already updated with further details. Which includes an updated FAQ page, which you can read in detail here.
Of course, this could make the Friday night party interesting. Especially if it keeps its current theme.
If it does still happen I really hope it’s through an app where we can all have customized backgrounds. Imagine all the fun we can have with green screens and suits.
I think we will all have to wait and see what happens.
Final word
As you can see, I’ve had a few thoughts about SQLBits going virtual. One things is certain, this year’s SQLBits definitely will be a new experience for both seasoned and new SQLBits attendees.
I definitely still intend to co-present with Sander Stad for this year’s SQLBits. Because I really enjoyed presenting last year, which you can read about in detail here.
So, I hope to see some of you online one way or another at this year’s virtual event.
